2Modern wallpaper pattern roundup. Plus Domino’s guide to wallpaper. I’m a little obsessed with pattern right now.

Power of Pattern- 2Modern's wallpaper roundup

The Power of Pattern is a great post over at 2Modern. I need to move into a huge brownstone so I can wallpaper more than just one room. I’m still excited to do my wall with Ferm Living’s tree wallpaper. Maybe I’ll get to it in the next couple of weeks. Honestly, I’m a little intimidated to do it myself, and my husband seems less than thrilled to get involved. I’ll have to bribe him with dog walking for a week or something. He’s busy adding all of my patterns to my site right now. I can’t wait to show you. In the meantime take a peek at Domino’s great wallpaper guide.

Marcel Dzama: Dark art.

Marcel Dzama

I’m fascinated by Canadian artist Marcel Dzama’s work. There is a real dichotomy between the darkness and how inviting his delicate lines are. At first glance, his images are friendly almost graphic novel-esq. There are creatures, ghosts and characters interacting with humans doing things. He creates a universe where animals, spirits, and creatures co-exist. The humans have benign looks on their faces in the midst of nightmarish situations. Dzama’s ability create these narrative pieces with such a subtlety that the viewer has to go beyond the surface image and confront fear is masterful. The more I look at these pictures, the more symbolism I see. Take a peek. His work is here. He recently had a show here.

*I’ve been working like mad to get my pattern portfolio together and I’m about to launch a new section on my site. I’ll post my new patterns this week! I just learned the software I needed to make the work into actual repeats for wallpaper, textiles, and other surfaces. Can’t wait to launch.

Hot and cool colored and patterned bags to covet for spring by Merimekko, Kate Spade, & Hable Construction.

Hable Construction

I’m craving the warmth of spring. These color combinations and patterns catch my fancy. Merimekko and Kate Spade are masters of color and pattern as far as I’m concerned. I think my top choice is that Kate Spade peach toned one. Hmmm maybe you’ll see me around with it come May. I’m also really into the Hable Construction bags. I love the graphic orange one above. Perhaps it’s a tie between the Kate and Hable for me?

I’ve been slanted toward the ladies lately. It’s only fair that I think of the men-folk, so this post is all for them. Or you, if you have one you want to buy a Tee for. Rumplo has nice tee’s for everyone.

I love that you can browse by color too. Nice touch.

I just started reading this excellent blog by Josh Spear and co. They found this great site called Urban Tailor where you can pick fabrics and styles to design a custom piece with all the details you desire. Very cool.

(funny coincidence is, I just noticed my college roommate is the one who posted on Josh Spear about Urban Tailor…time to get back in touch with Evan).

*Tangentially, I want to eat one of these special cupcakes.

Modern Color-field artists: Jim Lambie, Maya Hayuk, Mark Grotjahn, and more. Plus, artists who use light and color as their media: Spencer Finch, Philip Rahm, & Lisa Yuskavage.

As some of you know, I contribute to Color Lovers blog. The posts are far more content rich than on Maquette so I thought I’d share. Hope you are as in love with color as I am!

I recently did two extensive posts on artists whose use of color and light are just astonishing. I won’t say too much, I’ll just link to the full posts and include some enticing pictures above.

**Read this wonderful Maira Kalman interview from Inspiration Boards blog after you finish with the posts above.

****I’ve been working night and day on my patterns. I have to learn the software that will help me to make them into true repeats for textiles and surface designs. I can’t wait to share my progress…soon.
