My sketchbook pages + Mankind Mag: Issue 1

sketchbook pages

Erin has done it yet again, she’s inspired us. Her inspiration E-zines have been superb and now the first issue of her magazine is available for free online or for a small price offline. Check it out! I’m flattered that Erin chose to feature one of my sketchbook pages (on p.27). Above are some others.

We spent the weekend with my family. It was so relaxing and lovely. My parent’s love having us and cooking great dinners together to share on the porch. We also took long walks, went to the farmer’s market, tended to the garden, sat on the porch watching fireflies, watched movies, and just spent time together. They love Dave like he’s their son, so everyone always has a ball. Even though they live relatively close, I miss them when I don’t get to seem them often. It was just a perfect summer weekend. I came across this heart shaped wooden box I carved in college at their house and took a picture of it to show you. Hope you all had a great weekend too!

I got a lot of emails asking about Eloise’s paper dress. Here’s the flyer for the show if you want to see it in person:

Eloise Corr Danch: Life-size period costume dress made of paper, based on Valasquez’s “Las Meninas” painting

Eloise Corr Danch

My friend Eloise who I’ve mentioned here, has an amazing show at the Anthropologie at Rockefeller Center. She created a 50 pound paper dress based on the one in Valazquez’s “Las Meninas”, a painting that has always intrigued me due to all of the symbolism and iconography.

To read more about the incredible Eloise and this artwork, read Time Out New York’s blurb and see their photos. The ones above were taken by Eloise herself.

We’ve been trying to get together since Surtex and have only seen each other once at her b’day party because of busy schedules but maybe when her hands recover from all the paper cuts…we’ll catch up. Here’s what I made her for her b’day.

You’re amazing Eloise!

Sian Keegan: pattern designer + crafter

Sian Keegan

Sian (pronounced “Shawn”) Keegan is a brilliant surface pattern designer and crafter. She creates beautiful/precious animals out of recycled fabrics and remnants. She even does doggie portraits. I follow her blog to see her work and updates about it such as, Sian’s soft sculpture scallions are available and Rose and Raddish. I would love to have a doll made of Pita! And when I have a baby, how adorable is her mobile? Sian’s work is a must see.

Here’s her etsy shop, her elegant patterns, and blog.
