Perfect Shopbop tops!: Rebecca Taylor

Rebecca Taylor tops

The other day I posted about striped tops and that got me thinking about what other tops I could add to my wardrobe that would be totally comfortable for everyday wear and also transition from day to night simply by being paired with something different on the bottom.

I scoured Shopbop in search of the perfect perfect low maintenance Rebecca Taylor tops that would make me feel and look great. She’s the queen of elegant details like a little lace collar, shiny buttons, or visible stitching. I love her soft dreamy colors and delicate fabrics as well.

Here’s what I was looking for: Flattering shape, nice color/colors and or prints, multiple functions (as in could be dressed up with a slim belt, dark jeans and heels or dressed down with medium or light jeans and boots or sneakers):

  1. Rebecca Taylor plaid top
  2. La Dolce Blouse
  3. Botanical Shirt Dress (I love that this one could be worn over jeans, tights or leggings or even bare legs)

  2. Jacket Round-up
  3. July 4th outfit
  4. Pink palette

‘Ruffian Paper Doll’ by Eloise Corr Danch, special collaboration with Ruffian on view at Kate’s Paperie

Ruffian Paper Doll is the latest historical costume paper sculpture by acclaimed artist Eloise Corr Danch. Paper Doll was exhibited in October at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York for the Paper Ball, the gala opening of the paper exhibition SLASH! Paper Under the Knife. The Victorian era–inspired dress features pages of the book Ruffian: Inside Out (Assouline) and Le Monde newspapers were used to papier mache the body. For the bodice, Eloise cut an intricate pattern and devised an internal wire bustle to create the bottom shape of the dress, giving it a dramatic 1870s silhouette.

Eloise’s paper sculpture work was exhibited at the Macy’s 2009 Flower Show. That installation featured swirling floral garlands composed of more than 2,500 paper flowers as well as ornate floral headdresses, all filling 23 windows along 34th Street. As a result, Eloise was invited to appear onThe Martha Stewart Show to make paper poppies with Martha. Eloise’s interest in historical costume was on view in 2008 when she exhibited Lady Dulcinea, a life-sized paper dress sculpture at the gallery in Anthropologie’s flagship Rockefeller Center store.

Spring looks to look forward to: APC, Rebecca Taylor and Nanette Lepore

Spring looks

I can’t wait for spring to arrive for so many reasons. Mostly, I can’t wait to take baby Henry to the park and sit in the grass together listening to the birds.

Being pregnant for 9 months last year including spring and summer was slightly fashionably depressing. This year I look forward to outfits like these. I’m seeing bright mini skirts, stripes and simple hair coiffs. Just perfect. These are some of my personal favorite spring 2010 ready to wear looks:

  1. APC
  2. Rebecca Taylor
  3. Nanette Lepore

I’m feeling a lot calmer today. I can see the proverbial sunlight through the trees. The nanny is great and baby Henry is happy with her. I’m glad we have been doing some trial days this week in preparation for the real separation next week when I go back to work. I’ll be missing him all day but happy knowing that he’s being taken care of, sung to and played with. I’m going to savor the rest of the week though with him in the neighborhood, easy to pick up when I’m having an hankering for him.

I did get to do some work on a freelance project today and go for a jog. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to do both in one day.

I love this photo by Chloe Aftel. Definitely check out her site.

Sad to leave you: Robert and Shana Parke Harrison

This is such a sad and strange week. It’s my last before returning to work post maternity leave. I’m feeling so upset about leaving my baby. We’ve been practicing with the nanny, dropping him off and coming back later to check on things but trying to be hands off. It’s so hard not to scoop him up and kiss his big warm cheeks but I want him to get used to his new surroundings out of my arms. Next week will be even harder I’ll be so far away all day long.

I love Parke Harrison‘s photography. I have their book. This photo personifies how I feel.
