NYE dinner

Tonight a couple of close friends are coming over early enough to see Henry and say goodnight to him for one last time in 2010.

Starting with some fresh/gourmet ingredients and creativity, we’ll see what we come up with. Then we’ll kick back, drink prosecco and ring in the new year together. I can’t think of a better way to do it! The menu is tentative but I’m thinking for my contribution I’ll make biscuits, crispy kale, stuffed mushrooms, pasta with bechamel and salad. I already made cookies for dessert and I know my friend Robyn is picking up my favorite…macarons! I’ll let you know how it all goes and perhaps even share some photos/recipes later.

I hope you have the most wonderful new year with people you love and that 2011 is the best year of your life so far!!! Thank you so sincerely for joining me here on Maquette everyday. I honestly love sharing my work with you and of course my inspirations. XO.

Blizzard time lapse

December 2010 Blizzard Timelapse from Michael Black on Vimeo.

This staycation has been bitter sweet for us. We’ve been happy to be able to stay home and have nice family time but baby Henry has a little bug that won’t let up. Still, we’ve been pulling his chair over to the window and feeding him there so he can gaze at the winter wonderland. It is really spectacular. I’ve never seen a blizzard like this in Brooklyn. The snow was pouring out of the sky and the ground quickly became a shimmering blanket. The street lights looked so magical, like little orange orbs.

Today we bundled Henry up and my husband wore him all zipped up in his coat. We walked in the knee deep snow and pointed at the glimmering trees. It was amazingly quiet. Our street was not ploughed at all. For blocks and blocks there were no moving cars. A few cars had been parked in the middle of the street. Probably their drivers could not proceed through the thick snow and had to leave them there. Even now that a whole day has passed, it’s peaceful and still aside from little wind gusts outside the window now and again.

I love this time lapse of the blizzard
(thanks for sending it to me Dave)

New year resolutions: Creature Comforts, Frolic, Shiny Squirrel & Design for Mankind

The new year is a great opportunity to take heed of where you’ve been and where you want to go. I reached out to some inspiring women who you may know well already from the blogosphere to see what they resolve for themselves this coming year. Feel free to leave a resolution in the comments if you feel like sharing.

  1. I resolve to only purchase items that I truly love and that compliment my life, and not just products that fill the space or because they have a small price tag.
  2. I resolve to use the craft supplies I already have (my studio is a veritable craft store already) before purchasing any new supplies. This will force me to think outside the box and get creative with what I already own.
