Abstracts
I have a healthy work load on my desk but took a little time today to create some abstracts with watercolor and gold leaf. Have a colorful weekend!

I’m so thrilled to see my book: Well-Read Women: Portraits of Fiction’s Most Beloved Heroines featured on BBIC today. Julia Rothman is such an incredible artist and designer and I love the content on her site so much. So it was great to answer her thoughtful interview questions and see which paintings from my book she responded to. Thanks Julia!
My friend Davina worked on these incredible films about one of my favorite artists/designers Charley Harper.
My favorite quote about Harper’s work was uttered by designer Todd Oldham who championed the resurgence of interest in Harper’s incredible breadth of work. Oldham says that Harper’s work is “reductive but never diminished”. Harper was a total master at conveying information with an economy of line and form but with such depth and beauty.
Designtex, is launching a Charley Harper collection at the end of the month. I can’t wait to see it. For now, check out these wonderfully touching and inspiring films.

An interview with Charley Harper filmed in 2006, recut into a mini-biography using contemporary footage of his house.
I’ve mentioned my friend Randi Brookman Harris before. The moment I saw her orange palette print I knew it had to be mine. I love it so much. Henry always lets me know he’d eat the chip, candy and cheese doodle. Me too, little one, me too. Anyway, Randi just updated her site. There’s a wealth of talent to behold. Randi is a true master of prop styling.
It feels nice living in Brooklyn. You step off the train and it’s quiet. The skyline is lower than in Manhattan and you can even see stars at night. For the rest of the year we’ll commute Henry in to finish up his pre-K year with all of his friends. Next year he’ll go to Kindergarten a few blocks away. Till then, we’re back and forth on the F train. I sometimes snap a shot of this cool old Kentile sign from the train. The other day I grabbed a snap during a beautiful wintery sunset of the same sign from behind. It’s my own little instagram attempt at Monet’s haystacks ; )
Hope you stay warm on this blustery day. What an intense winter it’s been.
