“sad” girl illustrations I did as part of a job for Glamour Magazine (Sept. issue)

Crying

I did four spot illos for the Sept. issue of Glamour. I’m not sure which one they’ll choose from the ones above. I submitted both.
Here’s one that got rejected, they wanted her hands covering her face:
Sad girl

Hope you all had a nice day today? I was sort of tired at work and then internet was down when I got home so that depressed me into taking a nap. I’m trying to be productive now but sometimes the more there is to do the slower I become.

Go figure.

lines, colors, shapes, + textures sans figure.

abstract designs

I’ve always worked figuratively. However since I started creating patterns I’ve been having a ball with abstraction and work that’s more focused on lines, shapes, and texture. I recently updated my site with little tweaks and noticed a lot of work without the figure. So I compiled a little collection to show you. I would love to make these into journals, cards, or perhaps even bedding?? I’m still in love with the figure and will always work with it, but it’s nice working differently sometimes too.

Hope you are all enjoying the weather where you are. Here in Brooklyn it’s like a tropical rain forest minus the beautiful nature!
macarons
On a different note, look at these tasty goodies Dave brought home for us the other night. The mint/chocolate macaron looks nice with my green blackboard don’t you think?

Threadless T-shirts. I just submitted some of my designs. Shameless plug.

threadless
I just submitted three designs to Threadless. I hope one gets picked (fingers crossed!!) before Surtex so that I can wear it! And buy some for friends that have been super supportive of this endeavor that I’m so nervous about. I hate to solicit you but this is the way it’s done. Please vote for my tees if you like them and check out the others on there. Lots of great stuff.

*I was picked up by Etsy Press Club this month. Yeah. I have not really had time to market my shop. I think I’ll just let it sit there and hopefully it’ll get noticed eventually. I sold one print so far!

Maquette’s guide to Indie Fashion/Beauty/Style/Art Mags.

indie mags
I love the big glossies but there’s something about an independent magazine that’s special. Indies are always turning over stones to find the undiscovered flower. Plus they’re so fresh and current.

I made a little list below of some of my favorites. The first four are the images above. See, as promised, nothing about patterns today!! You don’t know how hard it is for my not to post the new ones I’m working on. Oh one more thing before I list the mags, I got my first official etsy order today from a lovely fashion blogger! Check her out.

Now for my list of mags:

  1. N.E.E.T
  2. Lovely (I might be doing an illo for their next issue!)
  3. Indie
  4. Fashion 156 (I did a couple of illos for their latest issue)
  5. Metro Pop
  6. A4
  7. 10
  8. Bon
  9. Sesame (I think they might be done : ( though)
  10. Ruby
